AUTHOR VISITS

I was a teacher before I wrote books for kids, and I love spending time with young readers.

THINK LIKE A GOAT: THE WILDLY SMART WAYS ANIMALS COMMUNICATE, COOPERATE AND INNOVATE

Apes that make friends and make up after fights? Birds with incredible memory skills? Fish that communicate through farts?! Absolutely. In this wildly fascinating, 45-minute presentation for 8 to 12 year olds, we'll explore the unique (and sometimes surprising!) smarts of all kinds of creatures, from tiny ant teachers to emotionally intelligent elephants. Readers are encouraged to bring their questions and their own amazing animal anecdotes to share.

IN THE DARK: THE SCIENCE OF WHAT HAPPENS AT NIGHT

Why are dreams so weird sometimes? How do cats see in the dark? Do plants sleep? Where do comets come from? Explore the fascinating science of night in this fun, interactive presentation for 8 to 12 year olds. We’ll look at human sleep (and snoring!), uncover some amazing animal adaptations, find out what plants really do after dark, and be wowed by glowing objects in the night sky. This 45-minute visit includes time for readers’ questions and is anything but a snoozefest.
